CSS is seeking a successful candidate to fill the role of Seafloor Mapping Subject Matter Expert in support of NOAA NCCOS.

The Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities (MDBC) Mapping, Ground-truthing, and Predictive Habitat Modeling (MGM) restoration project requires subject matter expertise to process and generate geospatial products of high resolution multibeam mapping data in mesophotic and deep benthic habitats in the Gulf of America. Specifically, the project is interested in processing imagery previously collected by the MDBC team and characterizing seafloor geomorphology

The SME should have an expert knowledge of deep water Gulf of America benthic communities as well as a working knowledge of historical and current ship based and AUV multibeam mapping surveys in the region.

Deliverables:

  • All raw data collected during cruises PS2418
  • Processed data for the following:

    • Seafloor digital elevation surface (raster) derived from multibeam sonar data (level 3)
    • Seafloor backscatter surface (raster) derived from multibeam sonar data (level 3)
    • Classified seafloor geomorphology layer (polygon) derived from analysis of multibeam sonar data (level 3)
    • Classified seafloor substate layer (polygon) based on backscatter intensity, bottom texture, video data and/or geological samples (level 4)
    • Compilation of any seafloor images (level 3)
    • Associated metadata for spatial products

Data processing levels reference NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) data products processing descriptions. All level 3 data should be georefenced, radiometrically corrected, mosaicked and gridded to the highest spatial resolution data quality allows.
