Job Summary

Under general supervision of the VMTH Imaging manager, Radiology faculty and residents, provide clinical and research imaging technical support for radiology examinations, instruction of students, administrative support, and maintenance support for the VMTH Small Animal Radiology/Ultrasound Services. Working within general guidelines established by the Radiology Faculty, make independent judgments in terms of determining the acceptability of each patient's scan so as to preclude the recall of the patient for further radiographic examination to procure a standard of patient care.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Must obtain a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 3 months of date of hire.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience in animal handling; including handling difficult or fractious patients.
  • Experience with nursing skills to include but not limited to; IV catheterization, common drug sedation and dosing, sedation monitoring, surgical preparation, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize on and scheduling case load according to the patient's condition, study required, time restraints, surgery schedules and work force availability.
  • Interpersonal and written skills sufficient enough to work with a diverse group of people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician RVT license.
  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician RVT license.
  • Experience using Eklin, Canon, Philips machines as well as VMACS, PACS hospital information systems, Ambra imaging exchange, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, information databases, maintaining and effectively organizing records, and log books.
  • Experience instructing small groups in animal handling, radiographic techniques, small animal anatomy, radiographic, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy image quality as well as knowledge of infectious and zoonotic disease protocols in veterinary medicine.
  • Knowledge of Radiation Laws and Guidelines required when using radiation producing equipment, radiographic techniques, patient positioning, operation of equipment to adequately obtain radiographs according to established protocols, collaborate with radiologists using correct anatomical, physiological, and radiographic terms when discussing radiographic examinations.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge. The UC Davis Radiology department is comprised of teams of the nation's leading professionals. Our teams are led by world-renowned, board certified radiologists, highly skilled veterinary technicians and radiology technicians that specialize in small animal, large animal, or both. Together, we share a passion in providing patient care, clinical instruction as well as hands-on training to residents and students. Our services provide innovative and cutting-edge diagnostics to patients with the use of high-end technology. We offer various forms of clinical and interventional procedures including but not limited to radiographs, fluoroscopy, myelography, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging in all species.
