DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING

Bureau of Homeownership Program

Number of Positions: 1

(additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $66,612.00/Year

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, assists residential property homebuyers (one (1) to four (4) units) in applying for purchase price assistance and/or mortgage credit certificates to purchase their owner occupied property in the City of Chicago.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under general supervision, assists residential property homebuyers (one (1) to four (4) units) in applying for purchase price assistance and/or mortgage credit certificates to purchase their owner-occupied property in the City of Chicago; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Works under the supervision of the Project Manager to review, address issues, and provide technical assistance to homebuyers applying for purchase price assistance forgivable loans/grants/mortgage credit certificates, through various programs funded with local and federal sources.

* Inform applicants and participating lenders on the availability of forgivable loans /grants.

* Provides information on program regulations and eligibility requirements.

* Assists applicants in completing preliminary and final forgivable loans or grant applications.

* Obtains and assesses necessary documentation to verify the financial status and eligibility of applicants..

* Assembles and establishes grant/loan files as applications are received and complete application packages for final approval.

* Conduct outreach sessions with prospective homebuyers and lenders participating.

* Respond to customer inquiries regarding status of application.

* Communicates approval decisions and/or additional documentation requested by supervisor's review.

* Coordinates pertinent functions to finalize and communicate approvals to homebuyers, lenders and the Department of Law.

* Maintains accurate records and prepares weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.

* Other assignments and tasks as assigned.

Location: 121 N LaSalle Street

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm

Qualifications

Two years of work experience in residential or commercial loan packaging and processing in a public agency or private lending institution, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Selection Criteria

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Spanish fluency (read, write, speak)

* Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

* Previous experience working with mortgage lending, federal grants, or housing counseling

* Previous experience working with a customer database

* Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
