Job Summary
This is a 1-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds and performance.

Under general direction, responsible for maintaining and operating heavy equipment and machinery at Fort Benning, Georgia in support of the Natural Resources Management Branch, including but not limited to bulldozers, motor graders, tractors, backhoes, tilt bed trucks, and lowboy trailers.

The position is being hired within the Center for Natural Resources Management on Military Lands to support the Natural Resources Management Branch at Fort Benning, Georgia. All projects are for an initial 12-month period.
Essential Functions
* Grades existing roads and trails to maintain firebreaks and transportation networks at Fort Benning.
* Clears dead and dying trees from edges of roads and trails.
* Establishes news roads and trails in advance of timber harvest activities.
* Restores skid trails following timber harvests.
* Establishes and maintains sufficient water diversion in trails, including waterbars, rollers, dips, swales, cross-drainage culverts, and diversion ditches.
* Loads and transports materials from one location to another.
* Repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles ensuring that they are in proper working condition.
* Assists in planning road and trail work.
* May assist with natural resources management activities including but not limited to prescribed burning, timber harvest, timber inventory, and species surveys.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Focus of Experience: Experience operating heaving machinery and road construction and maintenance practices.
