Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Insulator will be responsible for applying, removing, and repairing insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures. The position location will be assigned as required at one of the A/Z job sites.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Regular attendance at assigned location, may include A/Z office or other project sites;
  • Insulating building, tanks, vessels, boilers, steam and hot water pipes, cold or chilled water pipes, and/or other mechanical systems.
  • Determines the amounts and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, foam glass or urethane, based on material's ability to retain heat, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
  • Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
  • Read and interpret prints and plans.
  • Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
  • Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with metal jacketing, plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or mastic.
  • Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
  • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes and equipment in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
  • Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins
  • to surfaces.
  • Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
  • Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;
  • Additional duties as directed by management;

Qualifications

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
  • Understanding of basic math.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an Industrial Mechanical Insulator is preferred.
  • Display a mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting repairs.
  • Complete a 10-hour online OSHA certification.
