Division and Unit Overview

The mission of ACS is to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and all its people. The vision is to improve all people's lives through the transforming power of chemistry. The open role will support the Component Services and Global Engagement (CSGE) - ACS Membership area of ACS, as well as ACS Divisions - ACS Scientific Advancement, in achieving the mission and vision through supporting ACS component group engagement.


Position Summary

The position reports to the Assistant Director of Component Services and Global Engagement within the ACS Membership Division. The new team member will support multiple ACS component groups' day-to-day initiatives, while also taking on special projects to enhance the component group experience. The Program Coordinator (S2) is responsible for:


Position Responsibilities

  • Support multiple ACS component groups across the Society, including Local Sections, International Chapters, Student Chapters and Divisions to align processes and procedures these groups
  • Assist ACS governance structures in completing tasks in time for deadlines
  • Provide support to the Assistant Director of CSGE and Director of Scientific Content Management
  • Charters and renews all component groups.
  • Assists with administration of grants and awards, including tracking and creating payments to ACS components
  • Support payment processes for allotment, dues, grants and other payments to component groups,
  • Provide assistance to all component groups in the annual reporting process, including tracking, annual report submissions, reviewer assignments, and query/report writing.
  • Data and records management
  • Update component group information on organizational platforms.
  • Process and maintain membership and dues information for local section, division, and international chapter members.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, internally and externally, through correspondences and answering inquiries
  • Maintain respectful, transparent, and responsive communication with colleagues, volunteers, and other stakeholders.


Work Design

The candidate would be joining a small, mission-driven team within a large organization. A self-starter with the ability to quickly absorb information and collaboratively drive each project to the next step is required. Excellent organizational ability combined with flexibility and adaptability in handling rapidly changing priorities is essential. Experience working collaboratively in and with teams to accomplish the short- and long-term mission of the Institute and the ACS is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a technology-savvy approach are required. Required proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Willingness to learn new software platforms utilized by both internal and external stakeholders.

Education

Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher

This role is based in our Washington, DC office. The ACS Membership Division employees work a hybrid schedule, consisting of working onsite two days (Wed/Thu) per work week, as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely, though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose.

A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $29-38 per hour.
