OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer II for our growing Civil Land Development Infrastructure team in our Greenwood Village, Colorado Office. Some travel to client sites in and throughout Colorado may be required. Our team works a hybrid schedule with remote/home days and in office days with a flexible schedule to meet both your needs and our company's needs.

Typical salary range for this position is $83,600 - $108,200. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work within a team of engineers and technicians on Land Development projects to include commercial, industrial, single family, multi-family and mixed-use developments - including roadway, domestic water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer drainage system design
  • Perform mid-level technical work with limited supervision from more senior civil engineer or project manager after receiving initial direction. This includes independent design tasks, preparing construction drawings, organizing reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with the work of others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Document review of component designs completed by others for conformance of design standards.
  • Coordinate and sequence work with the component designs of other disciplines, preparing portions of bid documents including drawings and specifications, and organizing drawings, reports, calculations, and other components within larger packages of contract documents while meeting schedule and budget commitments.
  • Work with supervisor and junior engineers in support of projects.
  • Organize and manage details for multiple projects concurrently.
  • Assist in the development of scopes and fees and budget management.
  • Deliver quality services and deliverables.
  • Exercise initiative, judgment, and knowledge as required in areas of responsibility.
  • Exercise broader judgement on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work.
  • Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as a part of a broader assignment.
  • Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.
  • Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, surveys, and other work products.
  • Provide construction support and observation on project components including administration and limited observation of those components.
  • Engage in supervised client involvement.
  • Possible supervision and training of Engineer I and designers.
  • Engages in the training and mentoring of interns.
  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area.
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with other disciplines.
  • Has the ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Has the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Has the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Has the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possesses expanded working competency of engineering subject matter.
  • Understands impact of own tasks and impact of those tasks on others. Can forecast and communicate impacts on others.
  • Must become knowledgeable of Merrick procedures, understand them fully, comprehend their intent, and be able to apply them when required.
  • Continues to improve interpersonal skills to effectively interface with clients, project partners and Local, State, and Federal government agencies.
  • Be capable of supporting project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications.
  • Understands professional and ethical responsibilities and is able to teach them to others.
  • Key competency: Demonstrated ability to complete small projects, or 2-5 sequenced tasks, on their own.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences / Civil Engineer degree from an A.B.E.T. Accredited Program.
  • Required Certifications: EIT Certification.
  • Client Engagement: Some direct interaction with clients, especially on smaller projects.
  • Scale of Project Load: Flexible, will engage in support tasks as directed; expands understanding and sequencing of Contract Document production. Begins to independently gather workload from multiple supervisors.
  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Denver Area Land Development design and engineering.
  • Must be proficient using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) State of Colorado or the ability to obtain registrations within 12 months. Experience with storm sewer design software.
  • Experience with familiarity of Title 32 Colorado Revised Statutes relating to special districts a plus.
  • Experience with local entitlement processes and application of local codes and standards.
  • Local candidates strongly preferred.
