Summary of Position: The Student Learning Librarian is responsible for facilitating the connection between library resources and other areas of the college, in addition to meeting the information needs of a diverse community of learners and educators. The Student Learning Librarian delivers reference and instruction services, maintains liaison relationships with assigned instructional divisions, and participates in developing and delivering Library and Learning Commons services. This position serves in providing guidance, collaboration, and support to college faculty in the design of instructional materials and Open Education Resources. This position also assists faculty in the implementation of strategies, which facilitate the integration of a variety of technologies into the instructional process. The Student Learning Librarian supports faculty, staff and student use and development of Open Educational Resources and other materials that encourage student learning. This position works to promote social justice within the division and the larger academic institution. This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1-2 days a week working from home after the training period.

Essential Functions

Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. 3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success. 4. Library Services - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
- Serve as a member of the library team, providing reference services and instruction using current and emerging technologies.
- Assume a leadership role in the development of instructional web pages, tutorials, and guides, highlighting library services and collections.
- Collaborate with faculty to design, deliver, and assess information literacy materials and curriculum, using developmentally and culturally appropriate teaching methods and appropriate modalities.
- Provide leadership and coordination for library functions such as collection management, reference service, instruction, systems and technology, outreach, etc.
- Provide onsite and online reference services using a variety of print and electronic information resources.
- Contribute to the development and collection of appropriate print and electronic information resources.
- Provide backup-up services for other Library and Learning Commons staff as needed.
5. Student Learning and Academic Support Services - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
- Work with colleagues to ensure a meaningful Learning Commons presence in both online and face-to-face courses and provide library instruction as assigned.
- Support and coordinate Open Educational Resource development.
- Advise and support faculty and staff with technology-based learning projects that are consistent with best practices in instructional design principles and theories.
- Evaluate and respond to requests for technology-based learning projects.
- Facilitate workshops that keep faculty current with databases and electronic resources and relevant skills.
- Serve on college committees and participate in department, division, and college activities.
- Develop and share best practices for innovative teaching techniques across multiple platforms.
- Provide direct student support in the Learning Commons and online.
- Provide front line support to faculty regarding instructional design.
- Assist in the integration of curriculum design, delivery, and assessment through collaboration with the other instructional technology and design staff.
- Provide feedback and input for future instructional design needs and professional development.

Qualifications
-
Minimum Education Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university. Degree must be completed at the time of hire.
- 2 years experience in instructional design or curricular design or other similar academic experience
- Knowledge working in higher education with focus on performance-based instructional design, teaching and learning methods, data analysis and interpretation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialized skills and training in design and instructional systems

This position reports to: Manager - Learning Commons Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $58,325 - $76,289
This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1-2 days a week working from home after the training period.
