Company Profile: Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office. N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract. Position Location: This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Los Alamos is a tight-knit mountain community that consistently ranks as one of Livability.com's Best Small Towns in America. The city is a top spot for outdoor enthusiasts as it has more than 120 hiking and biking trails, and residents enjoy easy access to the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. Thanks to the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos' presence in the area, Los Alamos also has a college-town vibe that's a major draw for young professionals, families and retirees. Position Summary N3B engineering is seeking a Designer/Drafter to support the development and upkeep of maintenance, waste processing, and facilities drawings at N3B. While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Designer/Drafter will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Education and Experience Required: Drafter Level 3: Associate's Degree in a related discipline and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree. Familiarity with DOE Nuclear Facilities is preferred. Level 3: Business Associations: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of a sensitive nature Level 3: Impact: Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve. Drafter Level 4: Associate's Degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree. Familiarity with DOE Nuclear Facilities is preferred. Level 4: Business Associations: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations and/or individuals of significant importance within the company. Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communications. Level 4: Impacts: Errors are very difficult to detect and would normally require significant expenditures to resolve. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.
