Position Title:Radiation Therapist - Stephenson Cancer Center - PRN Department:Radiation Therapy Job Description:

Location: Stephenson Cancer Center

Shift Available: PRN, Part-Time (as needed)

General Description: Under the supervision of a Radiation Oncologist or Radiation Therapist Lead, provides radiation therapy to patients.

Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

  • Prepares equipment for immobilization and treatment as well as preparing required protective devices.
  • Positions the patient according to prescription for optimum exposure.
  • Responsible for entering data into computer, setting controls, making equipment adjustments and regulating dosages.
  • Provides necessary photography work of treatment areas.
  • Monitors patient throughout treatment for adverse reactions.
  • Assists with dosimetry procedures and tumor localization.
  • Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapist Lead in preparing prescribed treatment protocols.
  • Maintains files and charts.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree or higher. Graduate of an accredited Radiography program. Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited educational program with emphasis in a primary cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty as defined by the ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI preferred.

Experience: 0-3 years of experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Registration from the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy or eligible to sit for the exam. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Incumbents may continue in this classification for up to 6 months and must receive registration within that timeframe.

Special Requirement: Some positions may require approval in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidelines for unescorted access to radioactive materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of radiologic technology, theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Knowledge of radiation safety policies. Ability to work under stress and function in emergency situations. Good communication skills and the ability to work with others. Computer skills
