GENERAL SUMMARY
Mechanic repairs and maintains trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, wheel and track loaders, trench diggers, asphalt equipment as well as any other type of machinery that may be brought in for maintenance and/or repairs. This occupation involves the inspection, testing, maintaining along with diagnoses of malfunctions and repairing various heavy duty stationary and mobile equipment, including but not limited to; batch plants, crushers, screens, conveyors, scrubbers, feeders, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, quarry trucks, graders, mixer trucks, skid loaders, forklifts, compressors, welding machines, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. GED and/or equivalent combination of experience
2. Must become a member of the Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers Local 996
3. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
4. Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
1. CDL license with endorsements related to the mechanic and transport field
2. Current medical card.
3. 4+ year's experience working on heavy equipment and construction type vehicles both diesel and gasoline.
4. Mechanic Certifications from an accredited program.
5. Light welding experience.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONISBILITIES
1. Utilize manuals, hand tools & power tools
2. Utilize on-line computer research and diagnostics resource tools.
3. Extensive knowledge of electrical power, transmissions, brake, hydraulic and other equipment systems
4. Ability to read job orders, observe and listen to equipment in operation to determine system malfunctions
5. Repair cylinders, elevator chains, undercarriages, planetaries, recharges and replaces batteries, overhauls diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, torque converters, planetaries and hydraulic pumps using mechanic hand tools, welding equipment, standart charts and hoists.
6. Examine and replace protective guards, loose bolts and specific safety devices on heavy equipment as needed.
7. Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck or equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
8. Completes appropriate paperwork to support preventative maintenance and repair activities.
9. Troubleshoots and overhauls equipment such as shovels, batch plants, crushers, loaders, bulldozers, quarry trucks, mixer trucks, forklifts, compressors, etc; rebuilds equipment components and makes repairs.
10. Diagnoses malfunctions and based on findings, repairs, adjusts and maintains equipment.
11. Performs the various duties of mechanic.
12. Uses hand and power tools common to his trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, engine testing equipment, etc.
13. Drives pickups, tow trucks, operates and road test equipment as necessary, etc., in accordance with D.O.T. regulations. Requires a CDL "B" license.
14. Performs established periodic P.M. checks as required.
15. Services (cleans, oils and lubes) plant compressor, pumps and meters.
16. Follows established procedures in preparing necessary reports, requisitions, etc.
17. May do pipe work.
18. Assist other tradesperson with repairs when necessary.
19. Directs the work of trades helpers and other mechanics and tradesperson where their assistance is needed.
20. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, procedures, processes and behaviors.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Extensive knowledge and experience with all types of gasoline and diesel construction equipment and vehicles
2. Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment.
3. Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve.
4. Independently working to assess and repair equipment appropriately
