MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    HS Diploma or GED


  • Experience
    5 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, Surgical Technician or related field


  • Licenses and Certifications
    Sterile Processing Technician Certification


Preferred



  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree


  • Experience
    3 years of experience in a hospital PRECEPTOR or EDUCATOR role.
    1 year Working knowledge of AORN standards, OSHA guidelines, and in-depth knowledge of TJC, HSPA, and AAMI standards is strongly preferred.



JOB DUTIES



  • Assures that the standards of operation of the Sterile Processing department comply with the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the state Department of Health, TJC, IAHCSMM, AAMI, and AORN.
  • Works in conjunction with Clinical Education to provide a comprehensive departmental orientation to all new personnel and required training to all staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains continued education in the field of Central Sterile Processing operations and equipment through education, literature, and seminars.
  • Provides instructions and in-service on new products, procedures and equipment in a manner that will identify and prevent resource loss and maintain safety.
  • Provides recommendations to the Manager of Sterile Processing regarding staff's performance.
  • Provides training and education to Sterile Processing Technicians to prepare them for the National Certification.
  • Maintains open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, and interdepartmental staff.
  • Ensures the competency of all Sterile Processing Department staff.
  • Working closely with the department manager, oversees quality and infection control initiatives for Sterile Processing and maintains the quality assurance and performance standards of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
