Primary Responsibilities The Project Accountant position is responsible for all facets of project and contract financial management. The main focus of the project accountant is to assist the Project Manager with the non-technical management of a project, emphasizing project financial health. This includes, but is not limited to, client invoicing, collections management, project review, ensuring accurate contract documentation, contract monitoring and maintenance including budget and funding entry and contract administration during various stages of a contract life cycle. This position requires a hands-on team player who assists multiple Project Managers and staff to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and HDR policies and procedures. Accurate and timely performance and strong multi-tasking skills are essential.
In the role of Project Accountant 1, we'll count on you to:
- Enter project budget and funding based on information included in the contract documents and provided by Project Managers.
- Creation of accurate invoices in compliance with contract terms.
- Attend project review, kick-off and team meetings as necessary.
- Maintain and monitor contract compliance.
- Monitor weekly and monthly project expenditures.
- Ensure timely release of subconsultant invoices for payment.
- Analyze & notify PM of outstanding A-R issues
- Perform research and provide necessary data for Project Manager, Area Manager and others regarding project financial status, which includes funding/budget, staffing requirements and accounts receivable.
- Manage funding and budget updates as a result of work/scope changes and contract amendments.
- Request and assist PM in entering percent completes to monitor project progress.
- Confirm final billing is complete, re-budget project (if necessary) and prepare project(s) for closeout.
- Perform various specialized accounting functions of moderate complexity and ensure that procedures and practices are followed in accordance with company policy, accounting principles and contractual obligations.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
- 3+ years of experience preferred.
- Experience with Oracle EBS desired.
- A/E/C experience also highly desired.

- Familiarity with Earned Value Management
- Excellent verbal and written communication including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
