Summary: The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is dedicated to excellence in education, research, and patient care, achieved by faculty, staff, and learners who represent and serve its diverse community. In 2015, Temple University School of Medicine was renamed the Lewis Katz School of Medicine in honor of Temple alumnus, former trustee, and philanthropist Lewis Katz. The school enjoys a national reputation for training humanistic clinicians and biomedical scientists, a school that values technical excellence and cultural competence. Katz School of Medicine has 27 basic science and clinical departments full and with over 700 full- and part-time faculty, 800 volunteer faculty, and more than 500 additional staff. The Katz School of Medicine home base is a modern, 11-story medical education and research building with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies. The building opened in 2009 and boasts open-air research labs, smart classrooms, and a state-of-the-art anatomy lab. More than half of the space in the building is dedicated to research. With specialized research centers and strengths focused on population health, neuroscience, cancer, metabolic disease, lung disease, and inflammation, infectious diseases including HIV, cardiovascular disease, substance abuse, and translational science, Katz conducts investigations to break new ground and trains future generations of researchers to follow suit. In addition to its Philadelphia campus, Katz has a four-year regional campus in Bethlehem, PA-the St. Luke's University Health Network-Bethlehem. The Katz School of Medicine also provides opportunities for international students through educational affiliation agreements with universities worldwide. Visiting medical students may take up to two rotations within the program, and they must be full-time students in their final year of medical school. The Program Manager, Simulation Center, will work closely with all the simulation institute staff. They will assist the Director of the Standardized Patient (SP) Program in managing the program including implementation of doctoring I and II, PA, and other allied health student programs. They will assist the Director, SP Program in overseeing a large pool of SPs. In the absence of the Director, SP Program, the Program Manager, Simulation Center, will cover their responsibilities. This is a leadership position and requires someone with experience working with, and training standardized patients, hiring, case development, and critical review and data analysis of assessment. They need to have good attention to detail and be knowledgeable about information technology. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: *Assists the Director, SP Program in managing the SP program and covers responsibilities in their absence. *Works closely with doctoring, PA, and other allied health student-faculty in developing cases and program materials. Includes a critical preview of cases prior to use and analysis of data at the completion of the program and making recommendations to leadership for improvement. *Familiarity with SP methodology, or simulation education, knowledge of physical exam maneuvers and experience in adult learning. *Takes a leading role in implementing the Physician Assistant (PA), doctoring and other allied health student programs. *Ability to train standardized patients (SP) for simulation-based education and provide constructive feedback. *Scheduling of SP/PI personnel, facilities, and programs. Program invoicing. Managing SP hours in Kronos. *Development and preparation of operational documents. Develops and presents orientation for new PA and Medical Students to the Simulation Center as well as procedures and protocols for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCEs). *Observation of SPs and PIs for quality assurance. *Assists in hiring SPs and patient instructors (PIs). Leads hiring workshops and checks references. *Working knowledge of common applicable computer software and become proficient with the EMS SIMiQ clinical management operating platform and internal software such as 25 Live and Taleo. *Tracks SP program supplies and inventory. *Problem-solves technical and SP issues as they arise. *Participates in weekly doctoring meetings, monthly doctoring leadership meetings, and monthly Institute for Clinical Simulation (ICS) team meetings. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: *Must have standardized patient training experience. *Must be able to lead a team of 70+ SPs. *Must be able to work independently and problem-solve. *Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and good memorization skills. *Must have experience working with technology. *Must be flexible and adaptable. *Must agree to maintain the confidentiality of materials. *Acting experience can be useful but is not essential. Preferred: *Master's degree. *Theatre, performance or directing background. This position requires a background check.
