Summary: The Web Operations Engineer 1 manages and administers Linux servers, as well as the backend of CMS platforms like Drupal and WordPress, including modules, plugins, and databases. This role is responsible for running the infrastructure that supports the creation and maintenance of professional websites and applications in an enterprise environment. Additionally, this role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and managing third-party and open-source applications, along with their necessary environments. This technical liaison role supports the backend technology and infrastructure used by web and media professionals on campus. It requires knowledge of LAMP-stack technologies and experience with backend systems for enterprise-level implementations, including Nginx web servers and version control (Git). The person in this role is self-motivated and takes initiative to improve the efficiency and workflow of the Web and Media Operations group, as well as the areas that depend on their services. They are reliable, work independently without supervision, and proactively address challenges. They continuously seek self-improvement while also supporting the growth of others. Strong time management and goal-setting skills are essential, both for personal development and contributing to the team's objectives. They demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to handle complex situations effectively. Performs other duties as assigned as needed. Essential Functions * Administer Linux systems, including installation, configuration, file system management, resource monitoring, user administration, and process control. * Oversee content management systems like Drupal and WordPress, including administration, code deployments, and site management. * Install, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot applications, including modules, themes, plugins, and other add-ons, across various environments. * Utilize Bash scripting for automation and system management. * Collaborate with technical teams (DBA, Operations and Security, Network Services, etc.) to provision and support systems. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree preferably in Computer Science or relevant technology field and at least two (2) years of relevant technical experience. Experience with system maintenance, deployment, best practices, and coding standards. Knowledge of databases, networking, and the essential communications between applications. Experience installing, upgrading, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise level applications in Linux environments. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required skills and abilities Proficiency in LAMP Stack and Git. Ability to engage with Drupal and Wordpress developers on a technical level and provide infrastructure support for their efforts. Strong organizational skills to manage help tickets and ongoing projects, ensuring timely completion. Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact with diverse management and staff. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal guidance while also collaborating effectively with internal teams. Proven ability to multitask and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to provide occasional after-hours support for upgrades and technical emergencies.
