Description

Medical Assistant III is to provide administrative and patient care clinical support to the PEPC & Pain clinic under the supervision of Unit Director and Registered Nurse. Assist in coordinating patient flow through the clinic, from registration to discharge. Work as a member of the PEPC & Pain clinic team to provide smooth outpatient flow resulting in optimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation including answering patient and physician phone calls and processing information required to ensure patient visit and follow ups are scheduled appropriately. Participate in the total patientcare in the ambulatory setting, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms and life threatening emergencies. Act as a staff person in the office, assisting in patient care, and maintaining high standards of care in the office.

Qualifications

  • * A medical assistant diploma or certificate as follows:
    1. Documentation of completing of a medical assistant program from a medical assistant school that is accredited by ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP or ABHES


OR

2. Documentation of national certification for medical assistant issued by CMA, NCCT or AMT

OR

3. Documentation of completing a medical assistant program and demonstrated completion of no less than 10 clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests; 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood; at least 10 of each intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and 10 skin tests, and/or at least 10 venipuncture and 10 skin punctures; 10 hours of training in administering medical by inhalation.


  • At least two-year medical office experience required. At least two-years full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic or office setting
  • Ability to work with the physical demands of standing 80% of the day, lifting limbs and patients of various weights
  • Skill in independently composing correspondence in standard correct grammar.
  • Skill in organizing work flow to meet deadlines
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining complex filing systems (general and research).
  • Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate English vocabulary and grammar
  • to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect importance of job responsibilities.
  • Skill in exchanging ideas and opinions with others to increase efficiency of office procedures.
  • Skill in collaborating with colleagues and administrators. Knowledge of CPT and ICD 10 codes for billing
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Professional, Microsoft Word, and various software programs.
  • Knowledge and ability to practice aseptic technique when assisting with procedures and wound care
  • Ability to perform independently and complete assignments with minimum direction and supervision.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to triage medical problems within scope of job responsibilities.
  • Ability to take direction from physicians and medical providers and work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal with patients, staff and volunteers of diverse educational, economical, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in busy setting with conflicting demands.
  • Professional and enthusiastic attitude and demeanor with a belief in patient-centered care.
