About the Role

The Controls Engineer - Vision Specialist is responsible for developing, programming, and maintaining vision systems within a high-volume automated manufacturing environment. This role focuses on the integration of machine vision technologies with PLC systems to ensure quality assurance, alignment, and precision in production processes. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in vision software, image processing, and camera-based inspection systems in a manufacturing setting.

What You Will Do
  • Design, program, and integrate vision systems (Omron) with automated control systems.
  • Develop and optimize machine vision inspection processes for part verification, alignment, defect detection, and quality control.
  • Troubleshoot and fine-tune vision applications to ensure high performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement vision system enhancements across production lines.
  • Write and debug PLC and HMI programs (Siemens & Omron preferred) interfacing with vision tools and automation equipment.
  • Interpret and develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts to support vision system installations.
  • Support camera calibration, lens selection, lighting design, and image processing configuration.
  • Drive improvements in process repeatability and quality through vision-based feedback systems.
  • Ensure vision systems align with company and industry safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Provide training and support to technicians and engineers on operation and maintenance of vision systems.
  • Stay current on the latest in machine vision technologies and recommend innovative applications to improve manufacturing outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field highly preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in controls engineering, with specific experience in machine vision applications.
  • Hands-on expertise with vision systems such as Cognex, Keyence, or ideally Omron.
  • Proven experience integrating vision systems with PLCs, robotics, and automation platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with lighting and optics selection for industrial applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across departments.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
What is "Nice to Have"?
  • Advanced Certifications: Possession of advanced certifications in Six Sigma principles while not mandatory, would be a strong asset, showcasing a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proficiency in additional languages beyond English is advantageous, as it aligns with our global operations and enhances communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working in cross-cultural environments, or a demonstrated understanding of cultural nuances would be beneficial, given our global presence and diverse team.
  • Experience or familiarity with the dynamics of start-up environments, showcasing an ability to thrive in agile and fast-paced settings.

Work Environment
