Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Successful candidate must have High School Diploma or GED and 3+ years of experience within the field of janitorial/custodial work or other related fields. Supervisory experience would be considered a plus. Ability to assist with providing direction to other staff members. Ability to write legibly and deal effectively with public sector. Applicant should be physically able to perform all cleaning operations that require continuous walking, reaching, and bending. Ability to practice safe handling of cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment, storage and use of materials. Also, experience with floor care maintenance such as carpet shampooing machine, floor scrubber, buffers, waxing, stripping, etc.

Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide and maintain a safe, clean and well maintained facility for our students, alumni, friends and the community. This position provides great customer service in general to visitors and strives to accomplish the mission, goals and objectives of the Department while sustaining a relaxing and wholesome atmosphere that is welcoming.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Student Center serves as the principal site for student programming and offers office accommodations for student leadership, the University Event Center, Aggie One-Card, Aggie Sit-in and a convenience store. In addition, it offers an array of services, conveniences and amenities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests.
Work Hours 2pm-10:30pm Monday-Thursday, 10am-6:30pm Sunday. Hours and days are subject to change with notice
Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies


Required Competency Knowledge - Technical
Duties

  • Performs routine or repetitious tasks with care and attention with attention to detail
  • Presents full and accurate information in reports
  • Inspects and cleans within the building daily
  • Cleans and replaces light fixtures
  • Scrubs floors with a floor machine
  • Spot check and/or throughout facility shampoos carpet
  • Strips, waxes and buffs floors
  • Performs basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, etc., to keep working areas in a clean and orderly condition throughout the facility
  • Fills dispensers, such as tissue and soap, with the proper product and amount
  • Empties all trash receptacles throughout the facility and surrounding areas of the building into waste collection bags
  • Dusts and damp wipes all surface areas, tables, chairs, sofas, etc. should be with cleaning solutions
  • Cleans, a minimum of once a day with glass cleaners, all glass in the Student Center within reaching distance
  • Dusts and damp mops all window seals daily
  • Scrubs, sanitizes and deodorizes all restrooms
  • Disinfects toilet bowls and sinks and damp wipe all surface areas and re-supply when needed
  • Inspects bathrooms a minimum of three times during the shift. Clean and re-supply when needed
  • Sweeps and mops restrooms and wipe down walls and stalls
  • Scrubs and cleans trash cans

Duties

  • Warns co-workers of potential hazards (building security)
  • Recognizes and follows dispenser directions to properly mix cleaning chemicals
  • Polices public areas for cleanliness
  • Janitor closet must stay clean and organized at all times

  • Identifies best method for addressing a cleaning/maintenance issue
  • Commits to a course of action or recommendation within a given time frame
  • Promptly and attentively responds to customer requests within established parameters and time frames

Duties

  • Works with other housekeepers in performing floor maintenance and routine cleaning throughout the day
  • Prepared to perform other job related duties assigned by the supervisor
