Overview
The Campus Lab and Simulation Coordinator (Program Coordinator) collaborates with the Program Director, Campus Clinical Coordinator, Nursing Department Sim, Lab, and Clinical Coordinator, faculty, and staff to identify, develop and implement clinical skills and simulation-based activities. The Coordinator will plan, implement, and evaluate skills and simulation-based learning experiences. This position encompasses high-fidelity, high-technology, and procedural skills simulations.

This position offers opportunity for growth and career development and may be filled by a Program Coordinator I or Program Coordinator II depending on the knowledge and experience of the applicant. Refer to the "Qualifications" section below for specific details. Applicants hired at the Program Coordinator II level must possess higher-level skills & abilities and will be expected to complete tasks requiring a greater level of scope and complexity, as determined necessary by the hiring committee.

Responsibilities
Coordinator duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain databases of:
    • Inventory of lab equipment and supplies
    • Simulation-based activities, finances, supplies, and equipment
    • Simulation validity and reliability, including student simulation experiences and outcomes
  • Coordinate with faculty the schedules for student skills lab, and simulation activities
  • Facilitate and debrief of simple to complex simulation experiences
  • Provide safe learning environment for students
  • Review student evaluations of simulations for improved facilitation
  • Work closely with Department Clinical Skills and Simulation Coordinator for software updates, maintenance, support and user training for hardware and software associated with Laerdal, LLEAP, and SimPad technology.
  • Attend Department and Statewide simulation and skills trainings to maintain currency and coordination with USU's nursing simulation team.
  • Make recommendations related to student learning needs, equipment, and program simulation and laboratory acquisitions.
  • Instruction:
    • Instructs students as necessary
    • Evaluates students relative to skills and simulation scenarios
    • Plans, develops, instructs, and evaluates Standardized Patients (SPs)
    • Accepts course teaching assignments, if assigned
  • Attends department or other meetings, as assigned
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • To be considered at the Program Coordinator I level, a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or four years of nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience
  • To be considered at the Program Coordinator II level, a Master's Degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education plus experience
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in Utah or a nursing compact state

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expert technical skills and knowledge of nursing program to correlate simulation center activities with the curriculum
  • Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
  • Proficient in commonly used computer software with a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new programs as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Program specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notice.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
