Chemistry Faculty

Summary:

Full-time, tenure-track Chemistry Faculty (member of the Science Department) will be responsible for providing quality instruction to students by ensuring student satisfaction through the classroom or laboratory setting according to the program objectives. This individual must have a strong knowledge of chemistry. This position will be split between teaching at both the Bethlehem and Pocono Campus (Tannersville, PA) locations.

As professionals in a community college setting, faculty are involved in a variety of instructional and non-instructional activities, which contribute to goals and objectives of a comprehensive two-year institution. The following description of faculty duties and qualifications clarifies the expectations of this institution and is not considered complete or exclusive.

Responsibilities:

  • Align with the three tiers of a faculty: teaching excellence, professional development and college and community service annually

  • Prepare and teach courses as assigned by the Dean, School of Health Professions and Science

  • Provide quality and technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in lecture and laboratory.

  • Teach material from approved curriculum.

  • Perform assessment projects and advising of students

  • Maintain daily attendance.

  • Monitor students' performance to make suggestions for improvement and to ensure that they satisfy course standards and objectives.

  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.

  • Assist with course/program evaluation.

  • Advise assigned students in course selection, career preparation, etc.

  • Serve on college committees and participate in college governance.

  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to address the diverse learning needs of students.

  • Work collaboratively with Dean and faculty on initiatives to improve student success rates in division courses.

  • Develop and update curriculum.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to teach a variety of chemistry courses for major and non-major science students.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Master's degree in chemistry or related field required. Experience teaching college level chemistry lecture and lab courses.

Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate in chemistry or a related field. Experience teaching at a community college; Experience teaching general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory chemistry courses for both non-science and science majors. Documented effectiveness in classroom instruction; Experience in program curricula and course development; Experience using and integrating technology in class instruction; Experience developing and/or implementing instruction in online or hybrid formats.
