Job Description

The emergency room technician (ERT) works under the direction of Registered Nurses or ED Clinicians to assist in the delivery of patient care within the emergency department (ED). The ERT performs fundamental patient care tasks, specific treatments, and procedures, maintains a clean and stocked environment of care, communicates patient care findings and performs duties as assigned by RNs or ED Clinicians.

Work Schedule: 0.6 FTE. Day/Evening, 8-hour shifts. Includes every other weekend rotation.

Required Qualifications:



  • Must have one of the following:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Equivalent work experience in lieu of HS diploma or equivalent may be considered

  • Current BLS - American Heart Association or BLS - American Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer &Health Care Provider)
  • One year experience in healthcare setting or EMT Certification on State of Minnesota Registry
  • Must have strong organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills with a customer-service orientation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrates basic computers skills or the ability to achieve proficiency within 3 months.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to independently initiate appropriate tasks within the scope of practice of the position.
  • Ability to provide individualized care and respond to a variety of patient/family preferences.
  • Ability to provide an exceptional patient experience utilizing strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry
  • EMT certification on State of Minnesota Registry
  • Equivalent Patient Care Experience
  • HUC or unit clerk experience
  • Microsoft office experience
  • Prior experience in acute care or emergency medical services setting
  • Knowledge of emergency room patients
  • Knowledge and care in the use of orthopedic equipment
  • Knowledge of order sets in Epic
