Compensation Range: $81,453 to $101,817/year, based on experience.

Job Objective:

The Director of the Volunteer Management Program is responsible for leading the development and execution of The Salvation Army's Central Territory volunteer programs. This role requires a strategic leader who can drive volunteer engagement, oversee program implementation, and ensure that software tools are effectively used to support volunteer management processes.

  • Develop Program Strategies: Create and implement comprehensive strategies for volunteer recruitment, engagement, retention, and recognition aligned with the organization's mission and goals. Championing and enforcing system usage and tracking that we are meeting organization outcomes.
  • Program & Process Design: Design and oversee volunteer programs and initiatives. To include compliance and process management, garnering support/approval from leadership and involving other departments (like Safe from Harm, HR, Program, etc.) in process design efforts.
  • Evaluation: Measure the effectiveness of volunteer programs through regular assessments, data analysis, and feedback to continuously improve program outcomes.
  • Recruitment Campaigns: Develop and execute recruitment strategies through various platforms such as social media, community events, and partnerships.
  • Onboarding: Oversee the onboarding process, including volunteer orientation, initial training, and integration into the organization.
  • Retention Strategies: Implement and manage volunteer retention initiatives, including recognition programs, feedback systems, and ongoing support.
  • Training Programs: Create and deliver training programs for volunteers, covering both initial onboarding and ongoing skill development.
  • Professional Growth: Provide opportunities for volunteers to develop new skills and advance in their roles through workshops, seminars, and leadership opportunities.
  • Leadership: Support Divisional volunteer coordinators and support staff by providing guidance and feedback to ensure effective volunteer management strategies.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address volunteer concerns, resolve conflicts, and provide ongoing support to ensure a positive volunteer experience.
  • Software Optimization: Coordinate with the System Administrator to ensure that the software tools are configured to meet program needs, including user access, data tracking, and reporting functionalities.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and support for staff and volunteers on the use of the volunteer management software.
  • Data Collection: Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, hours, and performance within the software system.
  • Reporting: Generate and present reports on volunteer program metrics and impact to senior leadership.
  • Partnership Development: Build and nurture relationships with community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to expand volunteer opportunities and collaborations.
  • Community Representation: Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and other public forums to promote the volunteer program and its achievements.
  • Advisory Boards: Provide guidance, support, and training to field staff in developing, maintaining, and enhancing Advisory Organizations (including Advisory Boards, Advisory Councils, Echelon, and Service Extension units), equipping them with strategies for recruitment, engagement, and retention of members, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals, fostering communication and collaboration, monitoring effectiveness, and supporting the planning of meetings, training sessions, and recognition events.
  • Financial Oversight: Develop and manage the budget for the volunteer program, tracking expenses and seeking additional resources as needed.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources effectively to support both volunteer program initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in volunteer management, nonprofit program administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience utilizing volunteer management software systems, including implementation and optimization.
  • Proven track record of successful program development, team leadership, and data management.


Certification:

Skill/Abilities:



  • Leadership: Strong leadership and management abilities, with experience overseeing teams and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in volunteer management software systems (e.g., Golden, VolunteerHub, Benevity, CERVIS), CRM systems, and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and convey information effectively.
  • Organizational: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Passion for the organization's mission and a commitment to fostering a positive and productive volunteer experience.
  • Empathetic, approachable, and able to inspire and motivate volunteers and staff.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical office environment. Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work. This position is a remote-work position and will require agreement and adherence to the remote-work policies of The Salvation Army Central Territory.
