Job Summary:

About our Administrative Specialist (Commuter Solutions Coordinator) Position:
This position is a part of our Transportation Services department within the Facilities Planning and Management Division at UW-Madison. The Commuter Solutions Coordinator has primary responsibility in the Transportation Services Department for developing and implementing innovative Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles traveling to campus. UW-Madison has 48,557 students (and growing), 26,755 faculty/staff, about 8,000 hospital employees, and upwards of a million visitors per year but only has 13,000 parking spaces. Transportation Demand Management (TDM) ensures that all people can get to our campus since not everyone can drive a single-occupancy vehicle. The position thus supports one of Transportation Services strategic priorities, which is to promote alternatives to driving alone to reduce parking demand. Post-COVID, the university is seeing an unprecedented amount of parking demand, and the department needs to take a more proactive approach to influencing transportation behavior. The position will research and develop innovative programs to encourage and support transportation behavior change, make public presentations, develop outreach strategies for new employees, conduct information tabling at events, and assist employees and students with planning their commutes to campus in person and via phone and email. They will also provide regular analysis and reporting on the effectiveness of their outreach efforts

About our Transportation Services department:
UW Transportation Services is a department within Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) on the UW-Madison campus. We serve a variety of customers with a diverse set of parking and transportation needs. Transportation Services is responsible for the coordination and administration of all transportation-related services for the UW campus community. Primary functions include the sale/management of parking permits, special event coordination, maintenance and enforcement, construction coordination, lot and booth operations, citation payments and appeals, information technology, financial, transportation planning, and development of multimodal options.

The Division of Facilities Planning& Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for a variety of professional level work across a variety of administrative service areas including budget, finance, procurement, and human resources with impact across the institution in support of unit or institutional goals.

  • 30% Implements and executes established policies and procedures for a designated work unit to adhere to unit objectives and to align with established strategies
  • 25% Schedules logistics and secures resources for a designated work unit to contribute to the day-to-day operational success
  • 15% Analyzes data and trends, compiles progress reports, and provides appropriate recommendations or conclusions in support of the assigned operational work unit(s)
  • 5% Assists, recommends, and advises staff on unit or program administrative issues, personnel matters, and budgetary problems
  • 5% Serves on committees and attends meetings, representing the interests of the unit or program
  • 10% Develop and implement innovative policies, marketing strategies, infrastructure plans, educational and other programs to support and encourage non-single occupancy motor vehicle use and safety
  • 10% Provide assistance and education to customers on Commuter Solutions (i.e. Transportation Demand Management) programs

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Must have one of the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Urban and Regional Planning, Marketing, Public Health) -OR-
- Bachelor's Degree in ANY field and 1 year of relevant professional experience in Transportation Demand Management, Public Health or Marketing -OR-
- No Bachelor's Degree with 3 years relevant professional experience in Transportation Demand Management, Public Health or Marketing

Preferred
Master's Degree in a related field (Urban and Regional Planning, Marketing, or Public Health)


Qualifications:

- Experience in outreach program development
- Experience in giving public presentations, program analysis and reporting
- Customer Service Experience


License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Depending on Qualifications
The minimum rate for this position is 55,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
