Job Summary Job Summary

Applies basic, and some intermediate technical skills and knowledge related to polishing and buffing aluminum, steel and stainless steel articles to remove excess metal and surface defects from aircraft parts.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

  • Performs routine developmental learning assignments and applies standard solutions to work situations of a routine or repetitive nature. May perform a variety of routine duties related to the area to which assigned.
  • Starts polisher and holds part against buffing or grinding wheel against workpiece to remove metal and surface defects. Deburrs or polishes parts. Scrapes or rubs parts with file, wire brush, or buffing cloth. Examines part for acceptability of finish.
  • Secures work piece to bench or table and guides abrasive polishing wheel over work piece to remove scratches and other defects from metal surface.
  • Moves buffing wheel over surfaces of workpiece to remove fine scratches and to achieve specified finish. Polishes recessed areas with fine grade emery cloth.

Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, work instructions, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • May be required to obtain and retain powered industrial equipment certifications as required.
  • Wears protective Tyvex coveralls while performing this job.
  • Respirator training, certification and fit test. Must be clean shaven at the respirator seal.

Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can vary from loud to a more moderate level.
