Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Finance Data Analytics and Reporting team creates roadmaps for technology and analytic tools necessary for the University's budget and planning needs. This includes providing critical assistance in data analytics and financial modeling, developing templates, dashboards and long-range financial models for the division. The team also develops standardized data for effective and consistent finance and budget reporting throughout campus and for the
UNC System, as well as lead the development and implementation of reporting and data warehouse capabilities, using existing tools and acquiring new systems to achieve the University's evolving financial objectives. |
Position Summary |
The Director of Financial Data Analytics and Reporting is charged with development and support of financial systems and processes critical to campus-wide Finance & Budget functions. The Director will assist campus leadership in creating a roadmap for technology tools necessary to support Finance functions including budget and planning tools, reporting and Business Intelligence (BI) tools. The position will work closely with finance and budget leadership, University-wide finance leads across the institution and information technology staff to assess needs and expand capabilities for budgeting, reporting and analytics. The position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Budget.
Key duties include:
(1) Data analytics and financial modeling support: In partnership with University Information Technology Services (
ITS), lead the development of reporting and data warehouse capabilities using both existing tools (such as Tableau, Spreadsheet Server) as well as acquiring new systems to achieve Finance & Budget objectives (budget tools, reporting and BI tools).
(2) Financial and Budget Report Development: Develop financial and budget reports to support management decisions and standardization of data usage across campus and for
UNC system.
(3) Financial System Support: Manage the campus-wide budget software that supports the all-funds budget process, including report development, system upgrades and maintenance, and serving as the primary point of contact for campus users.
(4) Leadership and Supervision: Lead and develop technical and analytical skill sets, systems, and processes to support analytics; manage and direct the work of a team of financial, budget, and reporting analysts. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Master's and 2-4 years experience; or Bachelor's and 3-5 years experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Professional knowledge and skill in the implementation and support of
ERP systems and demonstrated ability to keep current with developments and trends in this area of expertise.
Ability to create and implement systems, design and test business solutions.
Ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions and/or reaching conclusions. Ability to take action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. Ability to analyze business processes and identify areas of improvement. Must have the ability to implement those process improvements within the organization.
Ability to clearly, succinctly, and effectively convey information and recommendations to individuals or groups orally or in written form. Ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills to give information to and receive information from coworkers, clients, governmental officials, and the public tactfully and in a professional manner. Ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience.
Ability to provide oversight for project(s) and all related activities in that setting. Ability to coordinate and manage facilities, equipment, supplies, and related resources as necessary for the project. Ability to monitor quality control and environmental risks, if any. Ability to establish a set of tasks and activities associated with an intended outcome and timeline. Ability to ensure actions are performed and/or implemented to achieve the results of the project.
Must have experience in a production support environment, and possess strong analytical skills to be able to perform detailed root cause analysis and resolution. Must possess attention to detail and be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Must have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, and Excel. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer experience as an applications analyst and experience with business analytics and reporting. Prefer three to five years of experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and/or
SAS Visual Analytics.
Strong communication and coalition-building skills are vital, including collaborative decision making in the workplace. Strong preference will be afforded to candidates who have performed the functions of this position in a public research university. |
