EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience
Three (3) years or greater experience as Central Sterile Technician.
One to two (1-2) years' experience in Coordinating sterile processing activities.
- Licenses and Certifications
Current Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician Certification
JOB DUTIES
- Assists Central Sterile Manager with daily operation, long range goal planning of department and performance evaluation and goal setting for staff. Assists Manager with guidance and counseling of staff. Identifies educational needs of staff and collaborates with Clinical Educator to provide learning opportunities. Identifies hiring needs and participates in interviewing and evaluation process of prospective applicants.
- Identifies problems and attempts to solve minor issues prior to seeking assistance from Central Sterile Manager. Assists in repair, loan and borrow process of surgical supplies and instruments.
- Makes self available during staffing shortages and emergency on call procedures. Performs technical functions required of Central Sterile Technician. Supervises and assists staff with all phases of sterile processing.
- Maintains current working knowledge regarding latest technology pertinent to central sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. Stays up-to-date on current legal and regulatory standards regarding central sterile processes. Stays up-to-date on current legal and regulatory standards regarding central sterile processes. Participates in development and implementation of departmental goals and quality management activities.
- Organizes and prioritizes central sterile tasks based on identified need. Performs and ensures performance of central sterile duties in manner that is cost effective without compromising quality patient care. Complies and ensures compliance with proper Central Sterile patterns regarding work flow, airflow, and people flow.
- Serves as professional and technical subject matter expert and resource person. Serves as preceptor to new staff and completes written clinical performance evaluation form in timely manner.
- Wears and ensures appropriate personal protective equipment is worn while working in decontamination room. Ensures that fragile instruments and scopes are handled delicately. Performs routine inspection and cleaning of department. Ensures chemicals are used in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Ensures that instruments, supplies, and equipment are issued.
