The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Oncology Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center offers a 12-month structured postgraduate education designed to equip Clinical Nurse Specialists*, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants with the specialized expertise required to deliver high-quality medical care in the complex field of adult oncology. As a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center aligned with the nationally ranked UT Southwestern Medical Center, Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center provides APP oncology fellows with an exceptional learning environment focused on quality patient care, groundbreaking research, and personalized mentorship. The program's innovative curriculum spans the continuum of cancer care, from prevention to end-of-life care.

During the fellowship, APP oncology fellows are full-time employees of UT Southwestern Medical Center and receive a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, continuing education funds, and access to low-cost medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Fellows are offered a competitive annual salary of $95,000, with potential consideration for relocation assistance. The APP Oncology Fellowship Program is set to begin on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Application Process

To apply for the APP Oncology Fellowship Program, please complete the online application and submit the following required documentation by Friday, March 14, 2025. Only complete applications will be considered:

* Curriculum Vitae (CV)

* Purpose Statement: A personal statement describing your interest in the APP Oncology Fellowship Program and how it aligns with your future career goals.

* Two Letters of Recommendation: Ideally, one academic reference and one clinical reference.

EDUCATION

* Minimum of a master's degree in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist*, Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care, Adult, Adult Gerontology Primary Care, Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family Nurse Practitioner) from an accredited advanced practice education program OR graduate of a master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION



  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, and/or Physician Assistant program
  • APRN/PA Board certification to be obtained by July 15, 2025.
  • Current Texas license as a Clinical Nurse Specialist*, Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care, Adult, Adult Gerontology Primary Care, Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family Nurse Practitioner) or Texas Physician Assistant must be obtained by July 31, 2025
  • Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

EXPERIENCE

Program admission is open to new graduates or experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners (Acute Care, Adult, Adult Gerontology Primary Care, Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family Nurse Practitioner) or Physician Assistants that meet the program eligibility requirements.
