Position Summary
The LCCC Finance Business Office supports all financial needs and transactions of center operations. The Business Office is made up of multiple financial groups ranging by funding source from clinical trials, state/trust funds, donor funds, and sponsored research. This position will lead a team of 7-8 operational staff members who provide transactional support across various funding sources. The financial operations team is responsible for processing hundreds of transactions weekly such as vouchers, pcard purchases and payment, pcard reconciliations, Buy Carolina orders, payroll transactions(ePAR/PAATs), effort certifications, customer invoicing, deposits, gift card advances, CBM reconciliation, and conference registrations. The operations team is a crucial and integral part of the Finance Business unit as it balances the customer requests to prevent bottlenecks and excessive backlogs. This Financial Operations Manager will serve as a liaison between multiple stakeholders such as the PIs/Labs, accounting teams, vendors, and main campus units. This lead role will oversee the day-to-day operational processes, monitor timely processing of requests, troubleshoot workflow and system issues, and maintain quality control of the transactions. This position will also be responsible for reporting efficiency and productivity metrics to the Assistant Director of Finance. This position is expected to help review, create, and maintain standard operating procedures within the Finance Office operations in coordination with university policies and guidelines. Serve as an internal resource to our customers, vendors, and staff on operational procedures. Provide training to new staff and lab personnel in the established systems and procedures of the Finance Office.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Mid- to late-career with Masters and 2- 4 yrs experience; Bachelors and 3-5 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Thorough knowledge of managing a research group with operational and financial responsibilities. Ability to independently make sound decisions and multi-task with weekly and monthly deadlines. Proficiency in university financial and non-financial systems. Possess professional business communications skills with proficiency in tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook. Experience supervising individuals and ability to delegate appropriate tasks for direct reports. Proficiency using MS productivity applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point, and OneDrive. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and reports. Ability to adapt to changes and updates in internal/external policies to facilitate customers and staff within sound business practices. Ability to assess and resolve complexed and non-routine problems and inquires as needed.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include prior experience in an academic institution with financial systems and knowledge of state regulations. Extensive experience working in PeopleSoft, RASR, and other UNC systems.
