Position Summary
The UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery has two primary goals. The first goal is to help discover how adverse neuropsychiatric sequelae (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, pain, depression, and other somatic symptoms) develop after traumatic stress exposure (e.g., motor vehicle collision, combat, sexual assault). The second goal is to use this knowledge to develop and test interventions that prevent these outcomes. Our primary strategy to achieve these goals is to recruit and retain outstanding, talented, self-motivated staff and faculty who are passionate about improving the lives of individuals who have experienced trauma. We love working as a team and believe that working hard and having fun are not mutually exclusive. We believe that a professional life invested in working to improve the lives of trauma survivors across the globe has great meaning. We believe in balance and wellness. The Institute for Trauma Recovery embraces a hybrid work model where people work from home some days and in the office with team members other days. However, we are open to also considering workers who would need to be fully remote.

The primary purpose of this position is to lead all data management activities within the Institute for Trauma Recovery, as well as oversee our team of Statistician Investigators. The Lead Data Manager will be responsible for directing daily operations of ITR's data management and statistical effort by providing input in design of new research, administrative initiatives, and strategies. They will oversee the management, organization, and analysis of data. Specifically, they will support faculty members and project coordinators by performing and/or managing work to extract, transform, validate, and manage institute datasets, analyze data from these databases, and design and/or manage data visualization solutions for ongoing projects. In addition, this position oversees the selection and programing of data collection/management solutions for a range of studies, from observational studies to FDA-compliant clinical trials. Of note, study datasets may come from various formats and sources, including but not limited to RDMBS, FTP/ CSV/ VML, web surveys, web services, wearable devices, accelerometers, neurocognitive assessments, and environmental sensors. Raw data sources may reach 300+ million records, with >1000 created variables. The senior data manager will perform and/or manage work to organize, publish, and document datasets. These datasets will be generated in widely used formats such as SAS, SPSS, and R.

The Lead Data Manager will provide supervision and oversight for data and statistical staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They serve as a data subject matter expert and develop and implement training for personnel as necessary. Achieving high-quality data is mission-critical to serving trauma survivors and improving their lives. Earnest dedication of the lead data manager to achieving high quality is essential. Independent initiative of the lead data manager during programming, coding, and validation to minimize errors in the data is critical to help achieve this goal.
