Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs has primary responsibility for shaping and implementing the University s global strategy while supporting global activity across campus. Units that report to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs include: Global Partnerships, Global Education, Exchange and Sponsored Programs, Global Communications, Global Research Institute, International Student and Scholar Services, UNC World View, Duke- UNC Rotary Peace Center, and the OVPGA Shared Services/Unified Business Cluster.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Senior Accounting Technician for the Shared Services UBC in the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs ( OVPGA), an independent operating unit within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. This position is responsible for accounting processing in the OVPGA including paying vendors via vouchers or PCARD, travel requests, monthly reconciliation of accounts and creating monthly financial reports and ad hoc financial reports as requested by unit leadership. This position is also responsible for monitoring facilities and administration, trust, endowment, and contract & grant funds and informs the Director of Finance & Operations for OVPGA of any unusual trends or any issues that may need attention. This position assigns and maintains cost codes and program codes for the different activities in the OVPGA for efficient tracking and reporting. This position works as the finance lead for the Duke- UNC Rotary Peace Center handling all transactions including paying tuition and fees in GradStar for the Rotary Peace Fellows. This position works with the Director for Finance & Operations to track Vice Provost commitments to campus through the Chancellor's Global Education Fund and disburses awards from this funds to faculty and students as directed by the Vice Provost for Global Affairs in support of the university's global mission.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices is required. Considerable knowledge of large enterprise budgeting practices and expense monitoring. Ability to understand, interpret and apply specific rules and regulations governing the processing of fiscal documents, maintenance of financial records, and the preparation of financial reports. This position will require someone with advanced Excel skills, including the use of macros, cell and file linking capabilities and pivot tables. This job requires fluency in the MS Office Suite. Excellent analytical, organizational, communications skills (written and verbal) are required. Must be customer-service oriented and remain calm and approachable despite work pressures and deadlines. Must be solution oriented and demonstrate support of management and team members. Must be able to focus, follow tasks through to completion, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred experience with UNC accounting systems and managing various fund types: state, F&A, trust, sponsored programs, and endowment funds per university, state, and federal guidelines. Knowledge of the university's policies and procedures relating to disbursements, travel accounting, pre and post award management of sponsored programs and other externally funded projects including managing sub-contracts, cost share inclusion and tracking. Experience in projecting personnel costs for a fiscal year, asset accounting, and and understanding of human resources management is preferred. Experience working in Connect Carolina (Finance, Student Information Systems and People Admin), InfoPorte, CBM, and GradStar is also a plus.
