Position Summary |
The Associate Data Analyst is a professional position based in the
UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health's North Carolina Institute for Public Health (
NCIPH).
The Associate Data Analyst will join the Community Assessment and Strategy (
CAS) Unit and will be responsible for a range of duties related to supporting analytic activities for bridging academic and practice-based knowledge through research and public service delivery. The individual will exercise professional expertise in implementing and evaluating projects with community partners. The individual will support public health research and technical assistance projects with the collection, transformation, analysis, and interpretation of primary and secondary public health data. Additionally, this includes the visualization and dissemination of results through publication, reporting, and community partner education.
They will also support the management and development of new projects aligned with the organization's key priority areas based on available funding opportunities with internal and external partners. The Associate Data Analyst will be expected to serve in a supportive capacity on most projects but contribute to overall project design and strategy. The individual is also required to demonstrate a strong knowledge of and commitment to identifying and addressing racial and health inequities in project work.
Position is hybrid with at least one day a week onsite. This role is required to live in NC and reside within commuting distance of
UNC campus. Occasional travel is required. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Strong skills in data management and analysis using R (strongly preferred), or equivalent software such as Python,
SAS or Stata.
* Ability to support the implementation of primary and secondary data collection activities using evidence-based processes for primary data collection and best practices for secondary data collection and management.
* Ability to interpret complex data from multiple sources to inform decisions around community and state level health improvement is also required.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), Zoom videoconferencing, or other similar software.
* Demonstrated project management experience. Organized, detail oriented, and able to meet set timelines.
* Proven ability to function independently and to successfully manage relationships in a team-based project environment.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, professional staff, funders, and public health/health-related practitioners.
* In alignment with organizational values, a deep commitment to understanding and addressing racial and health inequities as well as a passion for individual and collective learning. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Masters degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or health informatics.
* Prior experience in a professional capacity for a state, local, or international public health agency or academic institution.
* At least 2 years of experience in data collection, management and analysis.
* At least 1 year of project management experience in a work context.
* Knowledge of North Carolina public health system a plus.
* Additional skill sets (e.g. R Shiny, ArcGIS , Tableau, other visualization skills) that can contribute to projects would be an asset.
* Experience using Asana or similar project management software. |
