Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Naval Science Department and the Navy
ROTC program is built to provide a source of diverse, highly qualified officers ready to serve on United States Naval ships, submarines, aircraft, or in the United States Marine Corps. Students (midshipmen) who obtain a baccalaureate degree and who satisfy academic and physical requirements are commissioned as either ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Courses offered by the Department of Naval Science, in conjunction with courses offered in the Curriculum in Peace, War, and Defense, are designed to equip an individual with the necessary tools to succeed as an officer and a leader in the United States Navy or Marine Corps. |
Position Summary |
Primary Purpose of the Administrative Assistant:
- Serve as the primary administrator for the Department of Naval Science.
- Serve as the primary University liaison for all HR and financial related matters.
- Prepare the budget and monitor expenditures in accordance with regulations .
- Complete financial account reconciliations.
- Monitor staff and program activities for compliance with university and departmental policy.
- Monitor and order office supplies.
- Initiate and monitor facilities support.
- Coordinate with building manager and setup building access.
- As needed, represent the Department of Naval Science at meetings, trainings, and information sessions to ensure the department is current and compliant with university policies and procedures.
- Assist the Department with organizing and safeguarding information* Assist the Department with calendar management.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
At a minimum, demonstrate competencies listed below:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with institutional financial systems (PeopleSoft or other related software).
- Experience using Excel (or related software) for querying and reportingTechnological and logistical competencies must include: Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Software including but not limited to MS Word and MS Excel.
- Ability to multi-task while dealing with frequent interruptions.
- Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
