The Cytotechnologist accurately screens routine GYN and Non-GYN slides for the presence of abnormal cells. The Cytotechnologist works effectively as a team member within the department and with other departments to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and examines non-gynecologic and gynecologic slides for cellular evidence of disease and renders an interpretation of the findings in precise cytopathology terminology. Recognizes deviation from expected results and marks areas for cytopathologist review.
  • Assists with Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy and other procedures. Communicates requirements for specimen submission.
  • Participates in Quality Control and proficiency testing programs and other required programs to maintain certification.
  • Participates in orientation and training of new employees and students, hospital and laboratory in-service and continuing education programs and mandated annual proficiency testing to ensure currency of job knowledge and technical competency

Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Cytotechnology, graduate from a CAHEA-accredited school of Cytotechnology or degree in Biological Science with 12 months CAHEA accredited Cytotechnology program required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' previous experience required.
  • CT (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
