Job Description
The Associate Vice President for Student Development reports to the Vice President for Student Success and is a key member of the division's leadership team. This position is responsible for providing strategic vision, skilled planning and project management, program development, effective supervision, budget oversight, data analysis and evaluation, and institutional coordination for academic success and holistic development including Student Life, Student Achievement (My College Success Network), Advising, Career and Transfer Services ( ACTS), and the Department of Accessibility, Community Standards and Student Well-Being. Additionally, the AVP serves as the College's Title IX Coordinator, advances strategies in the areas of academic and career advising, and promotes execution of student support services that enhance degree completion and student success. This role takes an active part in addressing student performance gaps and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Additionally, the AVP for Student Development stays current with promising practices in higher education, and community colleges specifically, to champion efforts that lead to continuous improvement.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Master's degree in a related field is required, such as Counseling, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, or Community College Leadership. Alternatively, an appropriate certification, such as a Law Degree, Organizational Development, or Human Development, will also be considered
Required Experience
At least seven years progressive leadership experience in an academic setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, supervise, and evaluate staff while fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Proven experience in developing, monitoring, and optimizing budgets to align with strategic goals.
  • Skilled in setting and achieving annual goals through informed, data-driven decision-making.
  • Expertise in creating, implementing, and updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with institutional and legal standards.
  • Experience in planning, assessing, and evaluating programs and services to drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in analyzing and utilizing data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform strategies and enhance decision-making.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to effectively manage conduct violations and address behavioral issues.
  • Experienced in leading intervention services, including managing Care Teams and Student Intervention Programs, while staying up-to-date with best practices.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing holistic advising plans for transfer and career services to enhance retention and student success.
  • Effective in promoting communication and coordination with internal departments, external partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Skilled in overseeing the student code of conduct, ensuring fair, consistent, and policy-compliant enforcement.
  • Experienced in fostering an inclusive environment that promotes belonging and equitable access for all students.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing enriching cocurricular experiences and leadership development opportunities for students.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in a related field
Community College experience
Hours per Week 40 - 100%
