Position Summary

The Psychologist will assess individuals with mental and emotional disorders through observation, interviews and, on occasion, psychological screening tools/tests to formulate and deliver related forms of treatment. This individual will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to support patients by assisting them in gaining insight, defining goals and planning action to achieve effective personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment. The Psychologist will identify psychological, emotional and behavioral issues using information obtained from the interdisciplinary team, patient interviews, records and other reference materials. The Psychologist will use a variety of treatment methods such as brief counseling, individual and group psychotherapy, behavior modification, CBT, DBT, stress reduction therapy and play therapy. Treatment interventions will address individuals and groups regarding problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, behavioral problems and family dynamics with the goal of modifying behavior to improve personal, social and vocational adjustment. The Psychologist will be directly involved in and support team efforts related to patient de-escalation, crisis intervention and restraint application as necessary, quality improvement activities, regulatory compliance efforts, psychology intern/extern supervision and other duties assigned by the supervisor.


Duties Description:

Duties of the TH Psychologist will include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Provides general psychological and behavioral services to individual patients and families on designated units as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Records all clinical observations and findings as they pertain to the patient's diagnosis and treatment.
  • Attends appropriate staffing huddles/conferences and patient care conferences to provide feedback about psychological and behavioral interventions and outcomes.
  • Provides consultation to patients and families from other departments in the form of diagnostic evaluations and psychological/behavioral treatment and interventions.
  • Participates in the organization, design and implementation of psychological and behavioral services that meet the needs of patient care, as well as, the requirements of local, state and national accrediting agencies.
  • Participates as required in the training of psychology graduate students and interns by providing clinical instruction and supervision in the principles and practices of psychological diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of psychological research studies.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Department of Psychiatry and unit leadership as it pertains to psychological studies taking place in the hospital, while following all related hospital policies and IRB rules.
  • Meets with unit leadership and clinical supervisor on a regular basis regarding the design and implementation of psychological services to meet the needs of patient care, teaching and research.



Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:



  • PhD/PsyD in Clinical Psychology from an APA approved program with an APA approved internship.
  • Experienced with crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience in behavioral treatment modalities and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Experience providing evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Experience with risk assessment/management with providing supervision to psychology trainees.
  • New York State license or eligibility.
  • Full-time availability to work flexible hours and days/evenings.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
  • Clinical experience with short-term therapeutic interventions
  • Clinical experience with motivational therapy/interviewing.
  • Track record of research and teaching
  • Training in administering the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) to diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorders

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $100,000 - $127,000 Base

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:



  • Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3400)
