JOB TITLE:

University Photographer

JOB PURPOSE: Coordinate and execute high quality, professional campus photoshoots for various events, academic programs, athletics and campus life. Make creative decisions on location, framing and lighting to produce marketing-ready images. Edit, process and prepare photographs for distribution to campus clientele. Assist in managing UW photo database.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Arrange photoshoots requested by campus clients and assigned by Associate Director, Creative Services.
  • Produce and distribute high quality images for marketing purposes. Make artistic decisions and approach assignments with creativity.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining UW photo database.
  • Maintain operations of the photo studio and schedule quarterly staff/faculty portraits.
  • Support efforts to purchase and maintain photo equipment, supplies and software.
  • Assist in developing creative concepts for university marketing campaigns.
  • Work with the staff of Institutional Marketing and Communications, as well as constituents across the university to provide photo services that support the University brand.
  • Perform editing, color correction, archiving, and efficient file storage.
  • Utilize creativity as well as knowledge of lighting, composition, camera/lens combination, and editing software such as: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Light Room, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
  • Adapt to various environments, both indoors and out. Choose the appropriate location, proper equipment and lighting.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Associate's degree in Art, Journalism, Public Relations or related field

    Experience: 3 years' work-related experience

    Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Digital imaging technology, techniques, methods and formats.

    Equipment, tools, and supplies used in the taking, processing, enhancing, and use of photographs including various cameras/lenses, image processing software and types of lighting.

    Copyright regulations and privacy laws.

    Photographic materials, techniques, and media.

    Theory and techniques of modern photography.

    Choose proper settings on cameras and photographic processing equipment to obtain intended effects and select the appropriate camera angles, picture composition, filter, lighting, or other treatment necessary to produce the desired message or special effect.

    Utilize creativity as well as knowledge of lighting, composition, camera/lens combination, and editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and other Adobe Creative Suite products.

    Move 50 pounds regularly.

    Accurately present technical, scientific, and professional subjects and activities through photography and execute effective preservation and presentation of imagery.

    Advise on technical problems in photography, camera, lighting, image processing and production.

    Recommend the purchase of photographic equipment and supplies.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Laboratory and studio environments; frequently on location for indoor and outdoor events.
