Job Description
Harford Community College's Office of Accessibility (OA) office provides accommodations and support services to students with documented disabilities. Accessibility Assistants are expected to maintain confidentiality of student information.

Accessibility Assistants are expected to attend all scheduled classes, take thorough, legible notes on class lectures and discussions, and provide copies of notes to the student OA office. Use of a computer, tablet, or other electronic device is required to send copy of notes to the student.

Other duties include: Reading information aloud in a slow, precise manner, speaking clearly, either to an audio recorder or directly to a student. Reading assignments must be completed in a timely manner and copies of audio recordings delivered to OA.

Accessibility Assistants assist students by writing answers to exams or other written assignments exactly as dictated by the student. They are expected to write the student's words legibly and give a copy of the scribed materials to the Test Center, OA, the instructor, or the student.

Candidates will be required to sign a FERPA release permitting access to educational records to confirm the required GPA, credit, and disciplinary standing.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position.

If you apply on or after November 1 of the current year , your application will remain active until December 31 of the following calendar year.
Required Education
Successful completion of six credits of college-level courses, including English Composition, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.

Accessibility Assistants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to currently enrolled HCC students.
General Weekly Work Schedule
Hours vary based on the needs of the department.

The hours of part-time, as-needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
