Jefferson Methodist Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Moonlighter to join our surgical team.

Job Description

Job Summary

This role is ideal for experienced surgeons, surgical residents, or fellows seeking to supplement their clinical experience and income. The Surgical Moonlighter will provide patient care in collaboration with attending surgeons, residents, and other healthcare providers, ensuring the highest standards of surgical care.

Key Responsibilities

Preoperative and Postoperative Care:

  • Evaluate and manage surgical patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Conduct preoperative assessments and prepare patients for surgery.
  • Manage postoperative care, including monitoring recovery and addressing complications.

Assisting in Surgery:

  • Provide surgical assistance in the operating room under the supervision of attending surgeons.
  • Perform procedures commensurate with the provider's training and privileges.

On-Call Coverage:

  • Provide on-call services during assigned shifts to manage emergent surgical needs and admissions.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records, including operative notes and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute patient care plans.

Teaching and Supervision (if applicable):

  • Supervise and mentor medical students and junior residents when appropriate.
  • Participate in educational activities such as case discussions and morbidity and mortality conferences.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Successful completion of an ACGME accredited general surgery residency

Licensure and Certification:

  • Unrestricted medical license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Surgery or related subspecialties.
  • Active Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.

Experience:

  • Experience in general surgery, trauma, or subspecialty surgical care preferred.
