- Description
- The Quality Inspector position requires a person to demonstrate the ability to maintain Acadian's quality standards by using any means necessary to accurately measure, document and satisfy industry and customer specifications. This position requires a firm understanding of all aspects of Quality at Acadian Contractors Inc. with the ability to step in at any process to promote quality and focus on continuous improvement. This is an Abbeville based position working at our Henry Fabrication Facility.
- Education
- Preferably high school diploma or equivalent
- CWI credentials
- Experience
- 5 years minimum experience, (Piping, Vessel and/or Structural) fabrication
- Duties
- Attend pre-job/kick-off meetings as assigned by Quality Manager
- Issue AFC Drawings including revisions to shop personnel from Quality Manager or designated personnel
- Read and interpret all AFC prints issued to shop including structural, piping and vessel drawings
- Review, understand and implement job specific requirements & specifications for all jobs.
- Verify material on fabricated items are correct as per drawing requirements.
- Manage and organize NDE for fabrication jobs as needed. This includes using a "call out" sheet to direct the NDE Company on what is needed for a call out at Acadian Contractors and issuing of NDE PO's.
- Sign off on Traveler/ITP Inspection
- Ability to read tape measures or any devices deemed necessary to achieve dimensional tolerances.
- Verify WPS documentation at assigned posting area as per fabrication drawings (in clear protective cover)
- Maintain dimensional control and tolerances associated with all AFC prints issued to shop. This includes but is not limited to advising and instructing fitters, welders, lead men, and shop foreman on dimensional controls and techniques on how to achieve drawing dimensions during fabrication.
- 100% dimensional/visual check of overall product prior to finished product leaving the shop. Pipe shop checks 100%, Structural only check overall dimensions on complete products. Spot check pre-weld fit-ups (or as required by project specs/ITP).
- Spot inspection of layout and fit up via visual and dimensions check with appropriate measuring device; (calibrated tape measure, laser tape, angle finder) or any other measuring device needed to achieve the accuracy needed to satisfy dimensions called out on AFC print. This includes the documentation of all verified dimensional checks signed off on the issues QC drawing/s. Fitter drawings are also reviewed to assure proper heat numbers are properly documented on the Fitter issued AFC prints (and/or cut sheets)
- Inspection of all welding fabrication for deficiencies after the welder has visually checked all welds and is deemed ready for QC final check. Lead man to conduct spot checks
- Welder Identification visual checks on all fabrication in the shop. All welds are stenciled near the applied weld. All welders have assigned stencils for proper application
- Prior to equipment transfer from shop, attach "yellow" ribbon (dimensional and heat # welder ID Check Complete).
- Data book organization for each job is required and maintained by QC inspectors. Acadian's data book expectations are defined with standard indexes and shall be maintained on a daily basis. Customer requirements with custom indexes may be utilized for data book(s) in lieu of the conventional Acadian data book.
- Understanding of Acadian welding procedures for monitoring welders to the parameters of any approved welding procedure at Acadian Contractors.
- Monitor adherence to required welding procedures on a customer request basis. Monitoring to be documented on a welding parameter check form to include welding speed, volts, amps, heat input and gas flow. Number of welders monitored will be determined by job size, duration and customer requirements. Weld Monitoring boards to be updated daily to reflect welding in all shops for welding procedures utilized per Acadian job number(s).
- When work stoppage or special hold point arises, flag red and sign. Remove tag out upon confirmation to proceed.
- Verify Welder qualifications to welding procedures utilized per job requirements.
- Formally report any repetitive and/or substantial personnel quality, accuracy, workmanship, or reliability issues to Shop Superintendent and Division Manager for follow up and mitigating actions to be taken through progressive discipline. All incidents shall be reported in the QIRT when deemed necessary
