- Description
- The Shop Superintendent position requires the person to demonstrate the ability to coordinate blasting and painting/coatings scopes of work.
- Ensure adherence to specification and code requirements.
- Effectively assign and monitor tasks given to personnel.
- Monitor productivity and efficiency of operations.
- Ensure ACI's quality standards and procedures are maintained and that shop and equipment under direction is maintained.
- Education
- Preferably high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience & Qualifications
- 10 years' experience in Blasting and Painting, and Management of Shop Foremen and personnel.
- Strong communicator, Ability to multitask
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. Must be able to detect slight differences in various finishes.
- Good reading comprehension for technical documents, such as safety regulations, assembly and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Excellent verbal communications skills, especially when addressing customers, clients, or official visitors to the worksite
- Basic knowledge of software programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to write reports and professional correspondence to vendors and clients
- Duties
- Participate in all daily JSA meetings and JSA development for daily tasks.
- Direct blasting and painting in shop and in yard when required.
- Responsible for ensuring Quality Control tasks. Work with Quality Control Manager on all structural pipe Vessel and package jobs in shops.
- Approve daily time for personnel by 7:30AM each morning as reported by shop foreman for previous days' time.
- Able to read/understand paint specifications to ensure the client these coating procedures are followed to the best of his/her ability throughout the coating process.
- Direct all yard painting and assign and line up all painters for in yard work.
- Coordinate painting with Fabrication Shop Foreman, Material Expediter, and Project Manager in the yard. Keep Yard Foreman posted on equipment (cherry picker, crane, and forklift) needs and material movement requirements.
- Answer customer calls regarding painting in yard and/or off yard in absence of Paint Division Manager.
- Keep equipment in paint yard maintained, advise Paint Division Manager on equipment failures or purchases required.
- Ensure all personnel assigned to Division are accounted for on daily time sheets.
- Continually work with Facility Manager to develop efficiency and quality improvements during fabrication sequence based on (but not limited to):
- Repair Rates
- CAR/NCR Feedback
- Shop Workflow dynamics and overall shop physical set-up
- Supervision of all Paint shop/Control Coatings foreman job duties.
- Advise Project Managers of material needs to maintain job continuity based on material requirements lists developed by Shop Foreman (or designated representative)
- Keep equipment in shop area maintained. Advise Facility Manager of equipment failures or purchases required.
- In the event of a priority or scheduling conflict of project workloads, consult with Facility Manager on situation so a solution can be made by all involved.
- Communicate NDE scheduling and requirements with Shop QA/QC representative.
- Maintain communication with Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and QA/QC indicating when project WILL BE (advanced notification) completed and/or is scheduled for completion in order for Project Manager to issue transfer to hydro and/or Paint Yard.
- Monitor that project material is not removed and/or returned to project's assigned material storage area without completed Material Transfer sheet signed by Material Expeditor.
- Coordinate with assigned Foreman & Facility Manager on all out of shop equipment needs.
- Monitor daily housekeeping needs/requirements.
- Monitor personnel departure/return from lunch and break time.
- Monitor/address personnel daily and on-time attendance for work.
- Ensure shop personnel execute weekend commitments to Project Managers.
- Participate in all Daily Company Production meetings as well as daily Division Safety Meetings.
- Participate in bid work scope reviews and project kick-offs when required.
- Maintain/Monitor consumable inventory for shop operations
- Ensure Safe Work Practices and Acadian Safety Policies are observed and followed.
- Enforce disciplinary action as required with regards to personnel required job duties, attendance, quality of work, and adherence to company policies.
- Complete NCR/CAR investigation and documentation with responsible Foreman. Turn in documents to QA/QC Manager within 24 hours of occurrence. Provide feedback on closure of NCR/CAR to QA/QC Manager for CAR closeout.
- Monitor all repetitive and/or substantial personnel quality, accuracy, workmanship, or reliability issues to the Facility Manager and HR Department for follow up and mitigating actions to be taken through progressive discipline.
