Job Description
Harford Community College is seeking qualified medical assisting adjunct faculty members to teach on-campus, online, and/or hybrid classes.

Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position.

Your application to this position will remain active to December 31 of the current year. If you are not selected by that time, you must re-apply in order to be considered. If you apply on or after November 1 of the current year , your application will remain active to December 31 of the following calendar year.
Required Education
Candidates must have a certification as a medical assistant. A minimum of an associate's degree is highly preferred. Medical assisting faculty and/or instructional staff must be current and competent in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in their assigned teaching, as evidenced by education and/or experience, and have instruction in educational theory and techniques.
Required Experience
For medical assisting clinical courses, a minimum of two years of experience as a medical assistant is required.

For medical assisting billing and administrative courses, candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience in medical billing and coding, including EHR.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Current and updated clinical expertise in medical assisting or expertise in medical billing and coding, including EHR.
  • Ability to teach the adult learner the knowledge and skills required to function as a proficient medical assistant, including theory and lab instruction.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, have excellent organizational skills with an ability to attend to details and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Medical assisting faculty are expected to stay current in both their discipline and in teaching methodologies; maintain reasonable, distributed office hours; and develop and revise curriculum.
  • The faculty member should be responsive to student calls and in handling student concerns.
  • The ability to interact with students and potential students outside the classroom environment in discipline-related activities, effective communication skills, and a well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students are required.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree is highly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience including clinical and/or classroom, test item writing, curriculum development, and demonstrated ability to evaluate student performance; and experience with instructional technology.
