MedStar Health is looking for a Medical Physics Resident to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital!

The Medical Physics Resident is a clinical medical physicist trainee post graduate education in Medical Physics with a PhD or MS. The training program extends a period of 2 years and is managed by the Medical Physics Residency Committee with the direct oversight of the program director who reports to the Division Chief of Radiation Physics. The primary responsibilities of the physics resident are to rotate through the training modules designed by the residency committee which will evaluates the performance of the resident at the end of each training module and the overall performance of the resident in the entire two-year training period. The resident may take on certain clinical responsibilities as directed by the Chief Physicist or other staff physicists with supervision. In addition, the resident may take on certain clinical research projects as directed. The resident will support the Chair and Chief of the Radiation Physics Division in clinical and academic missions. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Contributes to Medical Physics Residency program by successfully completing all training modules. Participate in clinical functions and clinical research with supervision. Observe all CAMPEP guidelines in clinical training.

  • Participate in morning, patient specific, monthly, and annual physics. Perform measurements with supervision to determine patient dose and for clinical protocols. Ensures that OSHA requirements are effectively followed.

  • Assists with the departmental administrative duties as assigned by the Chair through the Division Chief. Participation in the development and implementation of policy and procedure for safe use of radiation equipment by the staff. This includes procedures I. to ensure compliance with USNRC, State or District regulations for ionizing radiation, JCAHO, and other professional standards as approved for departmental implementation.

  • Assists the Division Physics Chief in the periodic review of physics quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Supports the scholarly activity of the department through contributions to medical literature and the analysis of clinical outcomes.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of clinical research protocols consistent with all applicable institutional standards and guidelines. Complies with all MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Radiation Therapy Center policies related to privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Qualifications:

  • Post graduate degree in Physics.

  • Prior work experience not required.
