Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for training and leading Payroll Processors on various payroll processes, including providing assistance in inquiries, policies and calculations and as an escalation resource for processing. Processes include ensuring controls are in place for processing, auditing data processed by the Payroll Processors, identifying errors and root causes. The Payroll Specialist is able to provide full coverage for the Payroll Processors during absences.

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Ability to perform all Payroll Processor responsibilities in order to provide coverage on all desks during absences

  • Coordinate daily work activities

  • Audit off cycle checks prior to processing

  • Respond to internal and external questions and escalations

  • Provide training and guidance as needed to Payroll Processors

  • Document end-to-end processes

  • Create process to balance all incoming files, balance to Payroll Summary

  • Assist Accounting team with research to enable balancing and posting to GL

  • Process special adjustments, including prior quarter entries and coordinate processing

  • Research tax errors

  • Balance quarterly returns

  • Create reports as requested by manager or business partners to support audits

  • Coordinate audits, internal and external

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: None required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.

  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of intermediate mathematics.

  • Knowledge of computer applications related to payroll processing.

  • Knowledge of federal and state tax withholding rules and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Payroll terminology and methods.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $94,931.20 to $107,702.40
