Sr. Engineer - Emergency Planning Hazards Assessment Analyst

JOB TITLE: SENIOR ENGINEER - EMERGENCY PLANNING HAZARDSASSESSMENT ANALYST

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Support the SRNS Nuclear & Critcality Safety Engineering (N&CSE) organizaton in the development of
emergency preparedness documentaton for various nuclear facilites at the Savannah River Site.
Prepare, develop, and review Emergency Planning Hazards Assessments (EPHAs). This includes
partcipatng in hazards analysis meetngs; and where necessary, develop accident analyses using barrier
analysis (i.e., failure of engineered barrier, failure of administratve barrier or control), and performing
emergency planning zone (EPZ) and emergency acton level (EAL) evaluatons. In the preparaton of
EPHAs, perform consequence assessments using the ALOHA and/or HotSpot computer codes.

Ensure that the developed EPHA documentaton complies with requirements. Demonstrate personal
accountability for project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work.

GENERAL DUTIES
Scopes technical tasks and develops creatve solutons to assigned problems. Begins using systems and
meetng requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accept complex tasks and receives minimal
guidance from senior professionals.

Incorporates conventonal engineering or scientc practces and a variety of complex features such as
complicated technical requirements, applicaton of new or special materials or processes, and dicult
coordinaton or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

Provides limited guidance and directon to less senior engineering professionals.

Carries out development and qualicaton programs on tasks concurrent with other phases, such as
design and fabricaton, to beter evaluate and minimize future problems.

Develops alternate solutons to existng problems. Performs all detail work necessary to determine best
solutons.

Evaluates proposals and makes recommendatons based on proposed projects/tasks in area of
assignment.

May delegate portons of the detail work to less senior personnel.

Prepares costs and schedule estmates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrates cost
and schedule consciousness through tmely completon of assigned tasks and projects.

Prepares manuals and other documents supportng or publicizing the technical eort. Demonstrates
creatve ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical
papers, and artcles.

Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utlizes various work schedules including
5/8s (8 hour/day; ve days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9
hours/day, four days per week (weeks AA & BB) and 8 hours on Friday (week BB)). Work week excludes
SRNS holidays. Each workday has an unpaid 30-minute lunch break. Overtme will be expected at tmes
to meet deliverables and will be utlized at the discreton of the Manager.

Educaton: Degree in applicable science or engineering discipline.

Alternate combinatons of educaton and applicable experience may be considered at the discreton
of the Manager.

Skills: Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts,
principles, and techniques; has working knowledge of standard engineering/scientc practces and
applicatons

Candidate's resume must demonstrate a minimum of four (4) years' experience in emergency
planning through support to the Department of Energy (DOE).

Previous experience with implementaton of DOE O 151.1 Comprehensive Emergency Management
System and its implementng Guide DOE G 151.1-2 Technical Planning Basis is required.

Experience using ALOHA and/or HotSpot is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates who have possessed an actve DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are
preferred.
