Central Washington University is recruiting an Assistant Professor - Drawing and Foundations to join our Art + Design team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Department of Art + Design at Central Washington University (Ellensburg, WA) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Drawing and Foundations. The department is seeking a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to student success while teaching a student body that is diverse with respect to socioeconomic status, race, culture, academic interests, and career paths. The candidate will be committed to maintaining an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate courses in Foundations and Drawing while also overseeing all foundations courses being taught within the department. The candidate is expected to take an active role in developing and maintaining the foundations curriculum. Additional responsibilities include program assessment, student advising, service on departmental, college and university committees, the supervision of studio facilities, serving as a mentor to non-tenure track faculty, and teaching Foundations and Drawing courses and/or special topics courses as needed. All faculty members are expected to maintain a strong record of professional and creative development. The position will be at the assistant professorial rank with a 9-month contract and the expectation of teaching 2-3 courses per quarter per academic year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA in Studio Art.
  • Teaching experience at the college level as the instructor of record.
  • Actively involved in ongoing creative work with an emerging or established exhibition record at the national or international level with a specialization in drawing.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of drawing and foundation courses of all levels and modalities.
  • Research, teaching, or service that demonstrates an ability to contribute to CWU`s commitment to inclusion and diversity.
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom conversations.
  • Experience in Figure Drawing.

Preferred Qualifications (please address in your cover letter):

  • Experience in the supervision, maintenance, and budgetary management of a studio area.
  • Familiarity with current studio practices in the visual arts, as well as historical and contemporary concepts, criticism and techniques.
  • Experience with Curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated training in and/or experience in implementing anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion-related materials or pedagogical practices in credit-bearing courses, certificate programs, or professional development type trainings, workshops, or seminars.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Annual Salary: $61,999 - $64,500, based on a full-time nine-month appointment.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
