Position Summary

The School of Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Fiscal Services Technician to work in our new Research Support Office (RSO). The RSO will support all pre- and post-award duties for all Category 2 research centers in the School, as well as all complex and/or large research awards that academic units do not have the bandwidth to administer. The Research Support Office will report directly to the SoE Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, and will be managed by a Program Operations Director, to support the Center for Water and the Environment, the SouthWest Environmental Finance Center, Cosmiac, and the Manufacturing Training and Technology Center. Research expenditures for these units for FY24 were close to $20M.

This position will work on all post-award activities encompassing the life cycle of research (award set-up through closeout and a high volume of purchasing) in direct support of our Financial Analyst. The RSO will include two Faculty Research Support Officers for all pre-award activities, as well as 3-4 other support staff for pre- and post-award work in the RSO. Key responsibilities for the Sr. Fiscal Services Tech include, but are not limited to the following:

* Purchasing and Reimbursement - high volume supporting active research units

o P-card - must maintain good standing

o Chrome River (Expenses and Invoice Reports)

o LoboMart

o Independent Contractors

o Prepare vendor invoicing and deposits.

o Process complex procurement requests.

Account
reconciliations at the direction of the Financial Analyst.

Assist Financial Analyst with Contract/Grant administration
through award life cycle.

Evaluate procurement requests for allowability,
allocability, and reasonableness and adherence to Uniform Guidance and other
applicable policies and procedures.

Assist Financial Analyst with formulating policies and
procedures required for contract and grant administration and Research Support
Office operations.

Serve as a resource and educator for other fiscal staff.
Attend University trainings and meetings to provide input and solve problems
for faculty and staff.

Correspond with external departments and collaborators with
varying degrees of financial experience.

Compile supporting documentation for invoicing.

Assist with internal budget revisions and 90-day memos.

Assist with faculty and staff salary allocations and
redistributions.

Process undergraduate and graduate student contract
submissions and revisions.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (any area).
  • Prior Fiscal Services Tech experience in a UNM Department.
  • Experience with UNM accounting systems and processes (Banner, MyReports, Workflow, ePAFs, Labor Distributions, JVs, Chrome River, LoboMart).
  • Experience with UNM purchasing card and related policies.
  • Experience reconciling, balancing, and maintaining standard accounting records.
  • Knowledge of Restricted Accounting (sponsored projects).
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of the organization.
  • Skilled in navigating and adhering to established policies, procedures, and processes, ensuring consistent and efficient operations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, facilitating clear and effective interactions with diverse audiences.
  • Experience performing high volume of monthly reconciliations and working with principal investigators, Dean's, Directors.
