The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered PRN Sonographer to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures/non-invasive procedures at our West Des Moines/Jordan Creek location. This position will perform obstetric or gynecologic ultrasounds and ultrasound-guided procedures under physician supervision. This position includes moving and lifting equipment and patients. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Performs ultrasound examinations. * Takes appropriate number of pictures to document anatomy and pathology for specified exams according to established protocol. * Performs exams in specified amount of time according to complexity and extent of the exam. * Evaluates the developed sonograms for quality. * Labels sonograms with necessary information. * Works from a dicom worklist. * Provides educational information to patient and/or family regarding how the exam will be performed. 2. Performs Doppler ultrasound examinations. * Understands Doppler principles and applies them to interpret sonograms. * Operates machine in Doppler mode using established techniques and obtains measurements. 3. Performs invasive ultrasound-guided procedures. * Utilizes sterile technique in accordance with established departmental policy. * Operates needle guide to assist and direct physician to appropriate organ or pathology. * Assists with invasive procedures. * Assists physicians in the operating room with US guided procedures 4. Assists and instructs residents and/or students in clinical aspects of ultrasounds. * Reviews reports with residents and/or students. * Reviews images with residents and/or students. * Assists residents and/or students in performing exams. * Prepares instructional programs and handouts for residents and students. 5. Attends all required inservice education and department programs and meets standards. * Maintains required University compliances.. * Attends cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training annually. * Obtains and renews R.D.M.S. annually. * Maintains continuing education as specified by the R.D.M.S. 6. Produces and maintains ultrasound examination reports. * Enters data into computer to produce preliminary ultrasound report. * Ensures reports are generated within two days. 7. Assists in evaluating new equipment. * Uses and evaluates new types of equipment needed for ultrasound exams and procedures. 8. Performs other projects as needed. * Performs projects at time and location agreed upon unless extenuating circumstances are demonstrated and approved. * Performs projects within agreed upon time unless a time extension has been requested and approved. Pay Grade:38 Salary:$28.73 - $52.01 per hour (based on years of experience) https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans Percent of Time:PRN (10 - 20 hours per week) Variable hours between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Monday - Friday; rotating Sat and Sun call 8am - 12pm (about every 3rd - 4th weekend); on call holidays (rotating); looking primarily for Wed, Thurs, Fri hours Location:West Des Moines - Jordan Creek Parkway Qualifications: Education Required: Requires completion of one of the following educational pathways:
- CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology,OR
- Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography,OR
- Completion of a bachelor's degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography
Experience Required:
- Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within nine (9) months following the start of employment in at least one specialty area (i.e. Abdomen or Obstetrics/Gynecology) with preference given for two or more specialties.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Driver's License and ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Safety Standards is required.
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous EPIC experience.
- Previous OBGYN experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Membership in appropriate professional organizations desired.
- Willingness to train in additional modalities.
