The Behavioral Health Consultant team members work in a primary care clinic as integral members of the team. Behavioral Health Consultants provide short term, evidenced-based, individual therapy and psychoeducation services to diverse patient populations of all ages (adults/adolescents/children). A BHC works in a generalist role and should be comfortable assessing and working with a wide array of presenting issues. They should also be adept at closely collaborating with the primary care providers (PCP) and other team members to provide consultation related to a variety of behavioral health conditions. Other required skills and duties are outlined below.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Marriage & Family
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Skilled in collecting diagnostic information, diagnostic assessment, and differential diagnosis
  • Skilled in evidence-based psychotherapy interventions.
  • Willingness to learn interventions for improving physical health outcomes.
  • Basic, nontechnical knowledge of psychotropic and other relevant medications.
  • Basic understanding of primary care.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to work in an electronic health record.
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient and staff population, including using an interpreter for some visits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to write effectively and succinctly.
  • Excellent time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior work experience as a behavioral health specialist in a medical setting.
