Job Description
ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is currently seeking a Fitness Program Assistant. This role is designed to expose all to the various aspects of the Fitness Program. Program Assistants will be responsible for the planning, coordination, marketing, and management of fitness programs. They will be involved in outreach initiatives, special event programming, and have the option of delving into area specific programming to include, personal training, small group training, group fitness, and fitness assessment. The CRW Fitness Program Assistant will have the opportunity to observe well-being coaching, and health specific presentations (Sexual Health & Healthy Relationships, Alcohol and other Drugs, Stress Management & Mental Health, Body image & Nutrition and Overall Well-Being). The CRW Fitness Program Assistant will report to an assigned member of the Fitness program team pending specialty area.
Responsibilities:

  • Execute Fitness Studio Checklist (daily walkthroughs).
  • Teach Group Fitness Classes
  • Administer Fitness Assessments
  • Assist with Small Group Personal Training
  • Assist with special events for Campus Recreation and Wellness.
  • Plan/Coordinate Fitness Activities for Fall Special Events (Raid the Rec, BeachFest, PLPC, FreshCheck, Ghost Walk)
  • Assist with Fitness and Well-Being Marketing efforts to include Street Team and Table Events
  • Assist with the program management of various Fitness activities, Small Group Training, Fitness Assessment, Group Fitness, and Special Events.
  • Assist with outreach initiatives, to include resident hall programming, classroom presentations, etc.
  • Assist with, and serve, on committees for special events for Campus Recreation and Wellness.
  • Assist with staff training and development to include health coaches, personal trainers, group fitness instructors.
  • Assist with the instruction and/or execution of the ACE Personal Trainer, and Group Fitness (pending area of specialization).
  • Pick up Fitness Floor shifts as needed
  • All Program Assistants will participate in the ACE Personal Training, Group Fitness, or (if more wellness focused) Certified Peer Educator Training and Health Coaching Prep Courses.
  • All Program Assistants will participate in professional and skill development programs throughout the program.
  • Wellness Focused Opportunities (approximately 20% of time)
  • Assist with the program management of various Well-Being activities, which may include but are not limited to, Munchie Mondays, Therapeutic Thursdays, Fresh Food Fridays, Outreach programming and presentations, Small Group Training, Fitness Assessment, Group Fitness, Health Coaching, and Special Events.
  • Attend wellbeing ambassadors in-service meetings
  • Pick up Wellness Hub shifts as needed


Program Assistants are expected to work an average of 35 hours per week beginning on the first day of academic classes and ending on the last day of academic classes. Students will have, pending semester worked: Fall break, Thanksgiving Break, and Spring Break off.
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)

  • Completion of relevant coursework for an internship.
  • Current CPR certification (Or willing to complete certification within 60 days of hire).
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
