Primary Duty:

Resolve production problems and user calls. Logically diagnose and solve software and hardware problems in a Microsoft environment. Provide operation and technical support for business applications. Provide system development for projects such as new reports or systems enhancements.

Essential Functions:

Responds to production problems or user calls. Determines cause of problem and resolves problem or obtains necessary help in resolving problem. Instructs users or operations in solution.

  • Discusses programs or change requirements with users and other analysts. Defines functional requirements such as user requests for a new report or a systems enhancement.
  • For smaller enhancements, writes program specifications or list of functional requirements. May prepare estimates of time or resources required.
  • With minimal or no assistance, codes programs based on assigned specifications or own specifications, creates test plans, tests programs and may review test results.
  • Writes documentation or prepares help screens for users, operations and future program maintenance. Advises users on systems use.
  • Typical projects include design of a systems enhancement or programming involving data extraction, data creation, updating multiple files, storage and databases, data presentation, as well as reporting.
  • Attends training and meetings, and reads and studies for personal development to learn about the business and to keep current with the professional field.
  • Identifies and responds actively to the needs of all customers in alignment with the values and goals of the company and is open and responsive to change.

Minimum Education/Experience/Physical Functions:

Requires programming knowledge typically acquired by a college degree in computer science, information services, or a related field or equivalent experience. Additional knowledge required includes a basic knowledge of a business functional area(s) and its supporting applications systems, technical platform capabilities, planning and conducting user interviews, data analysis, structural systems design methodology, and the principles of systems design, on-line design and database design. Manufacturing operations knowledge and experience a strong bonus. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels in the organization. Strong interpersonal skills required as this is service oriented position.

Decision-Making/Supervisory:

Receives general review of functional specifications and task priorities from a project leader or supervisor. Receives detailed review of program specifications.

May provide guidance or instruction to other employees in demonstrating how to perform tasks or resolve problems.

Problems encountered include finding and correcting operational errors, determining how to design a systems enhancement and testing programs and systems.

Works with user staff, project leaders and supervisors and other technical staff to determine functional requirements for programs, systems enhancements or to resolve operational problems. Participates in team interaction.

Scope:

Actively participate in the full development and support cycles of an Applications System ensuring business objectives of a project or application are satisfied.
